Apollonia Kotero

Patricia Apollonia Kotero is an American actress singer and former model. She was known as the co-star in Prince's 1984 film Purple Rain, and the lead singer of the girl group Apollonia 6 in the late 1980s, the actress-singer Prince christened Apollonia was one of numerous female performers to benefit by their connection with Prince. She was born Patricia Kotero in Santa Monica California in 1959 her career began as a model and actress in the latter part of the 1970s including an appearance on the television program CHiPS. The female lead of Prince's Purple Rain was her first appearance in 1984. Prince changed the girl's name during this time. She took over Vanity by the female group Vanity 6 to perform in the film in the role of Apollonia 6 replacing Vanity. Sex Shooter was not a huge achievement for the trio but she was able to make a larger influence as Prince's duet partner on Take Me with You on the soundtrack. Kotero's association with Prince has ended after they had an argument over the direction she was taking in her career. Apollonia 6, the band she was in had a split. The following years she was a part of several small film projects. (She reportedly declined to participate in The Purple Rain film Under the Cherry Moon.) The singer later landed a role in the show called Falcon Crest between 1985-1986. Apollonia released her first album in 1988. But it was a fairly pedestrian compilation of music from R&B and dancing that didn't impress the general public. The album soon vanished from view. Apollonia continued to act (if somewhat under the spotlight) as well as small television performances, a few films, as well as an exercise DVD.
